Constructive Critique for "Night Lines" by Anton Tontchev
Nice, relaxing track. It doesn't happen much inside, but the overall feeling is good enough to forgive that.
Musically talking, the most important element here is the way instruments are used - not creating a simple melody, but a bouquet of sounds and harmonies. The way you describe it: "comfortable track" is really appropriate.
A few things to watch out for in the arrangement:
1. The intro (it introduces the theme which is repeated thru the song), is too long. All the things that happen before the guitar sound should come earlier.
2. The part with the guitar - it's in the right place, but more things should have happened before it. For example the bass...
3. Yes, the bass. Very well used. It gives that flavor... well, the one that we've missed in the first part. Why don't you use it in the beginning? It will make the entire picture complete and give satisfaction to the listener's ears.
4. So, here (after the part with the bass)something different is needed in order to keep the attention and the good mood.
Maybe a voice (even only talking) will add that little extra needed for completing the whole picture (you are using a voice like sound, so a vocal here will not be extraneous).
5. Of course using better "sound machine" will help further the track.
And.., you could spend some extra time of creating your own (modifying)
drum set instead of the usual 808(?). (it's hard to make midi sound like real instruments, but why not exaggerate and make it even more synthetic!).
The way I would see this track is:
-- Shorter intro - up to 15 sec.
- Keeping up the theme and using all the instruments (bass especially) - a more "static" bass would be fine.
- The guitar sound part - it is OK, but lift up the volume and let it go smoothly in to the next part.
- Wow - the part with the nice, improvisation like bass - the way it is.
- now see above "4"; and
- no changes needed for the end - it plays just fine

Night Lines is a good title and... well, it says it all.
You (the listener) really get that late night feeling of relaxation and calm.
And this is an excellent point for you (the composer) - achieving what the
title says and the reason you wrote the track...lines :)!
Good Luck,
Anton Tontchev
